Crazy Dice Game - Monday Oct. 1, 2007

Ahhh...ok. I had my first slightly failed lesson plan today. It wasn't incredibly discouraging though. The only part that didn't fly so well was the dice game. Hint: Don't ever pass out 40 dice to 40 kids at the same time! Just don't! SO, instead, I changed it up a bit and we used 2 big fluffy dice for the entire class to practice "How many?" Like my education department teachers always said, "You have to be flexible as a teacher!" So, it actually turned into not using the dice at all. I found that using a cute little fish counting game on line is soooo much more interesting than adding the numbers on dice. I love my interactive white board! The students can come up and they think it is pretty much the neatest thing ever to get to come up and click on the whiteboard! I can't really say much; I still think it is the neatest thing ever too!

This is a before shot of what my classroom looked like.

This is an updated version of what my classroom looks like. I couldn't stand how bare it was!

I got to see the first grade teachers today for the first time in a LONG time! I love them! They are so friendly and funny! I told them that I missed them, and they told me that I had to start coming down everyday. One of the teachers jokingly said that she had forgotten my name because I was gone so long. This is the same one that wants me to call her Maria Sharapova, like the tennis player. She also wanted me to take tennis lessons with her, but I decided to draw the line at $130 a month. It might be fun, but I want to see how everything else falls into my schedule. I still really want to find an orphanage to volunteer at and start pottery classes if at all possible. I've tossed the idea of TKD around too, but I don't think I'm going to do it.

After school, I went to Lauren's apartment to make 갈국수 (Kalguksu) with her and her host grandmother. At first we weren't allowed to touch the dough because she was afraid that we wouldn't get it done in time before Lauren had to go to Chuncheon with the music teacher from her school.

After a while, she let us roll the dough out. We had a humongous rolling pin to use! It was fun! While I was rolling, she came over and fed me some sort of kimchi something or other. It was delicious! (I didn't do so well at keeping my eyes open! ^^)

She soon took over again and basically said, "Let a pro do this." She was so spunky and adorable! (This is after the dough is all rolled out.)

After rolling, she folded the dough and cut it into strips for noodles.
We ate at around 4:30 PM which is super early, but totally okay with me! The food was amazing and we got to help make it!
I headed home after dinner and Lauren headed to Chuncheon. I chilled the rest of the night with the host fam and in my room.
